Games I used to play

This isn't a top 10 list or something like that, it's just a list of games, in no particular order. I also included a list of sounds from some of these games. Be sure to check them out.

Nostalgia warning !!!

Need For Speed II SE

The year was 1998. The first time I put my hands on a keyboard was to play Need for Speed II SE. I still remember that you could type "fzr2000" in the main menu and get the FZR 2000 which was the ultimate secret bonus car. It featured the highest top speed and fastest acceleration in the entire game.

I didn't play NFS II SE that much, but, because it's the first game I ever played on a PC, it deserves a spot in this list. Now that the first game played by me is out of the way it's time to list all those oldies that I used to play a lot, and I mean a lot.

StarCraft Broodwar

Terran, Zerg or Protoss - it didn't matter which race I chose - I'd spend hours playing this game on LAN parties with friends. We used to put our "workers" to gather minerals and gas and went out for a talk and a smoke. When we got back to our computers we had a lot of resources and we could start making our buildings and army units immediately.

I still have StarCraft II installed on my Windows laptop - I just have to find the time to play :-)

Worms Armageddon

I'm pretty sure everybody played this game at least once. You had your team of 8 worms max and you had to kill the opposing team with weapons that included: bazooka, baseball bat, dynamite, napalm, earthquakes and my favorite - the Holy Hand Grenade:

Oh, the tricks I was able to make with the Ninja Rope which included leaving a grenade near an opponent worm and getting back fast to a safe place using the rope.

Quake III Arena

The best first person shooter ever made - period . Rocket launcher, Railgun, Gauntlet and the BFG (Big Fucking Gun - just in case you're curious). The gameplay was awesome: speed, jumping, falling off the arenas and amazing sounds. We'd spend the night playing only Quake III Arena - especially on the map called DM17.

Remember these ?

Quad Damage

Mortal Kombat IV

Not much to say - everybody has heard about Mortal Kombat - especially with the new movie released in 2026.

No keyboard I had survived for long if I had friends over to play Mortal Kombat IV. My favorite characters were Scorpion and Quan Chi.

I was unbeatable at this game.

Cultures

In my opinion, this is the game with the nicest graphics that was made in the 2000s. You build your viking city, train citizens in jobs such as blacksmithing, farming, fishing etc. You even make them marry and have children. Really - hearts show up above the tent when a couple is "making" a baby :-)

Counter Strike and Half Life

The internet cafes were filled with children playing Counter Strike divided into Counter-Terrorist (CT) and Terrorist (T) groups. The best weapons were the M4A, the AK-47 and the AWP - the Magnum sniper rifle - one shot one kill. Oh, all the nights I spent playing on the map CS Assault ...

Half Life

You gotta remember the Crowbar, the Crossbow and the Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher which also had a red dot that you could move and retarget after you fired.

Rocket

Shotgun Cock

Atomic Bomberman

The classic that could be played by 10 players at once using 5 computers in a Local Area Network. Again, you'd have to split a keyboard with a friend just like Mortal Kombat but it wasn't a big issue. A quick key remap and both players had enough room to play.

Do you remember these sounds also ?

Aliens vs. Predator

Another awesome first person shooter. You can play with an alien, a marine or the Predator. I preffered to play with the Predator just because I loved the movies so much. It was a scary game - I jumped off my chair a few time while playing.

Zuma Deluxe

The only game I loved that could be played with just a mouse. Throw colored balls, match 3, continue until all balls are gone. Awesome tile-matching puzzle video game.

There are a lot more games I used to play but these 10 were not forgotten. What childhood games do you still remember ?
