Lenovo P510 PSU Click - No Power Until Press + Reseat Fix
After the post linked above about the Lenovo P510 refusing to power on, I thought I had solved the issue by reseating the GPU and RAM and holding the power button for a while to clear things out.
Turns out that fix was only temporary.
âš¡ The Return of the Click
A few days later, the same symptoms came back:
- Plug in the power - click from the PSU.
- No lights, no fans, no response.
- Sometimes it would start briefly, then die again.
I retried the same steps: full power drain, reseat, hold the button - they worked once or twice, then nothing.
🔧 The Real Fix
In the end, the power supply really was failing. I replaced it with a new unit, and everything came back to life immediately - no more clicking, no odd startup behavior, and no need to hold the power button like a ritual.
So yes, the protective latch and reseat trick can help diagnose things, but it won't save you if the PSU itself is degrading.
🧠Takeaway
What looked like a logic-state problem was actually a dying PSU just barely hanging on. The clicking was the relay engaging and shutting down instantly under load.
If you see that symptom, especially after a few miracle recoveries, don't waste too much time - swap the power supply.
It's cheaper than hours of frustration and much safer for your components.
