My computer naming scheme
My computers have the names of bumblebee subgenera:
- **Confusibombus** was my GNU/Linux box running all sorts of stuff: Debian 2.2 ("Potato") and 3 ("Woody") if I remember correctly, SlackWare... (2003)
- **Alpinobombus** was my iBook G4 running Mac OS 10.3 aka Panther (2005)
- **Pyrobombus** was the Mac Mini that replaced my desktop when Confusibombus died (2006)
- **Orientalibombus** was the iBook G4 running Ubuntu 9.10 aka Karmic Koala and 10.04 aka Lucid Lynx (2009)
- **Subterraneobombus** is the iBook G4 running Debian 6 (”Squeeze”) and 7 (”Wheezy”), and Jessie (2012)
- **Psithyrus** was my first server (2013)
- **Megabombus** was the PowerBook that replaced the Mac Mini once I realized that there were no more security patches (2014)
- Kallobombus replaced Psithyrus as the new server (2014)
- **Thoracobombus** is my iPad Pro (2016)
- Sibirocobombus replaced Kallobombus as the new server (2016)
- **Melanobombus** is my new Purism Librem 13 laptop running PureOS (2017)
- **Subterraneobombus** was reused for the MNT Pocket Reform (2024)
- Paraelectrobombus replaced Sibirocobombus as the new server (2026)
