Recommend One Book

Greetings.

I am from “out of town”, a sort of diplomat.

Please recommend one book to familiarize me with the basic fundamentals of the human experience.

This will aid greatly in my mission of understanding and communication.

Thank you.

1984. Not even because of anything like 'Oh this is just like what's happening now' I think it's a doubleplusgood and interesting book.

One Hundred Years of Solitude, from Nobel Prize Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Victor Frankl: Man's Search of Meaning

Irvin Yalom: When Niezsche Wept

Erich Fromm: Escape From Freedom

And these two, by not so known authors:

Mark Rowlands: The Philosopher and The Wolf

Edward Glaeser: Triumph of the City

i think i want to add another book, but i can't remember.

You gotta read the Bible if you want to understand a good chunk of the way people think. Love it or hate it, it's shaped a lot of people's thinking for a very long time. Start with the book of Luke, imo, because it's pretty accessible. ESV or NKJV translation is reliable/readable.
