Is Kant's categorical imperative a re-stating of the Christian rule of "Do unto others?"

Honestly, it seems that way. I've thought so for many years. However, the school where I received my bachelor's and master's degrees came from the Kant school of thought. And there, this was an unacceptable claim :) I'd like to know what you think too.

I've always felt Kant was just rediscovering the golden rule with this specific enunciation. Philosophy classes that say otherwise are usually scared of religion.
