RPG

Hi.

Does anyone here like to play board rpg games, like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder? Which one do you think are superior and why?

I have bought cheap the main three DnD 5e books some years ago, but never get very used to it. I started at 3e several year ago, did a tour through Gurps and Vampire, 3D&T, etc., but never ever felt very used to any of them.

Honestly, I don't think there's a right answer. Every game has its strengths and weaknesses and if you don't know what you like it's hard to gauge which platform is best for you without a frame of reference. I started with DND and ended up with Mörkbörg. It's just too much that depends on the personal taste of Setting, RP rules, combat rules, and most of all, WHO you play with.

I played a lot of 3e back in the day. then i moved and have no friends so i only play solo campaigns.

For group (or solo) now i really like Dungeon Crawl Classics if i'm more in a crunchy mood and Dungeon World if I want more story driven role playing. I have a 15 session DW campaign going that is rolling on with no signs of stopping.

I also enjoy Adv Tiny Dungeons, and White Box. When playing with the kids its EZD6 or Adventure Kids. I have Tiny Cyberpunk, Tiny Cthulu and ION Heart that i need to try out.

I have played Dungeons&Dragons 3.5 edition. However, now I mostly play GURPS, which I mostly like better (especially if it is "point-free" GURPS, which doesn't have a point limit or a disadvantage limit, and allows more options that cannot easily be done by the points which encourage to optimize a different way that might not be suitable for what you want, etc)

I like lots of RPG systems. I find that different RPGs satisfy different needs. Sometimes I want to play Mini Six, sometimaes I want to play Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2E, sometimes I want to play BESM, sometimes I want to play The Fantasy Trip, sometimes I want to play GURPS. Right now I want to play MERP.

Of course, there are advantages on focusing on just a few RPGs, but how are you going to find out what RPGs you really like if you don't try several?

Sorry. I may have not expressed myself accordingly. I wanted to know which one do you like better and for which reason.

I don't have an RPG that I like best. I like different RPGs for different things.

For instance:

So, I pick games for different situations.
