Tengo una padawan de hacker — Luego de rescatar una iMac de 2011 e instalarle Elive Linux, la usé para que mi hija tuviera su iniciación como mi padawan de hacker.

heliko - shell or shell helper inspired of oberon and acme — today i have been written this utility i called heliko (snail in esperanto). i want to create a program for kids or unix newbies to start using computers. i think that shortcuts make things worse in terms of education: this is not a pipe, and that is not 'my computer', one needs to understand that there are programs, directories and program arguments. - do we need to type it all? - often ask those presented with terminal. no, you...

Promoting logical thinking with logical games: I once 3D-printed the game Quoridor to try it out. It was definitely worth it for experimenting. Maybe one day I'll buy a wooden version of it. Is anyone familiar with the game?

3D printing update: I'll try to keep a small list up to date with 3D models that I've printed. It will be mostly about insect breeding. But also learning tools for children. Feel free to click on it: [gemini link] The current models are from thingiverse and similar. I'm currently printing a test series with meshes. For a terrarium project.

I've found that all the 3D printing portals and communities are fascinating with their unlimited number of models on any topic, but in the end you end up with sensory overload. Are there other ways? Are there repositories with STL files, for example, here on Gemini? I mean, is anyone working on a specific topic and storing 3D files for it? Thanks!

I recently tried out what a short story might look like if it were written by an AI. Together with the children, I entered a few ideas that came to mind. Then we tweaked it a few more times. We could smile about it. But the whole thing is also kind of flat. We wanted to make a sequel, made a nice plot and the kids came up with some great ideas. Somehow it seemed to me that we didn't need the AI anymore, the story was already written. ... I'll have to think about that. Greetings

I looked for old tweets again, which were a great inspiration. For children and adults, retro art, pixel art. With great tools. Looked like a lot of fun. Also exciting how the kids do it. Does anyone know more about Pinot? @pinot ( on X, formerly twitter) ...

For the children and the father: I was able to try out the Bambu A1 mini 3D-printer. I'll get to work with it at home and start with simple objects. My job has long been about digitizing zoological specimens, including 3d models. Let's see what the printer can do. And if the children are up for it.

Ideas on how to teach children, e.g. 10 or 14 year olds, about computers, hardware and software. A project instead of playing Minecraft and Brawl Stars. More designing instead of consuming. I haven't really found anything yet, maybe you have an idea.
