People here had quite a few interesting recommendations already, thank you all! If you enjoy deeper and a bit more abstract anime I'd personally suggest:
- Tatami Galaxy (+ "The Night is Short, Walk on Girl" and "Tatami Time Machine Blues" as sequels)

- Madoka Magica (+ Rebellion movie)

I so very much appreciate that I am still getting anime recommendations from this thread. I have bookmarked everything recommended and while I doubt I will get to them all, I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have watched. As far as I am concerned, necropost away!
