hi there! I guess this is done kind of bug, but I have no idea what might be causing it, since from the first time I found deedum, emojis worked without the need to do anything in particular (to the point that in not sure how they "work", honestly).
might be something to do with the android version you're in? in my old tablet some emojis are missing, maybe that's it.
I'm now out and about, but will take a look later when I'm at home.
maybe leave a comment with details (Android version, did you install it from from obtainium, etc), let's see if we can figure it out

@jmcs okay so i downloaded it from the link on your tilde page, i'm running android 16 with graphene os and emojis work on every other app. the emojis are selectable so i can copy/paste them and when i use my screen reader they say their name. they're just completely invisible. (maybe a font issue?)

I can't promise any timeframe these days, but I'll try firing up an Android 16 emulator at some point and see if I can reproduce this.
It would be weird for Android to ship a font without emojis, but who knows.
Maybe when I have some time I could even add a font selector or something, letting the user pick from whatever is installed in the system, if that doesn't turn out to be super complicated :D
be warned, however, that these days free time seems to be scarce...

Ok, a quick update: it seems emojis don't show up in either Android 15 (API number 35) or Android 16 (API 36), but they work fine on API 34, which is Android 14, which is what I have in my phone and what I had in the emulator where I was testing all this.
I'm now searching the web to see WTF did Google change and what I would have to do now to appease them...

emojis not rendering — i downloaded the most recent upkept version of deedum and i can't seem to get emojis to render. it leaves the space for them but they're just blank little boxes. is this a bug or a feature and is there a chance this can get fixed?
