Digital Front Porch

The Internet sold us the idea that anyone with a laptop and a cracked copy of Fruity Loops

would have as much access to distribution channels as a native Californian with Scientologist parents.

Stories abound of worldwide success on the back of a $30 beat and a USB microphone.

These are often, at the very least, greatly exaggerated. I think eventually it will

return us to what one might call the "digital front porch." Normal people will make music for their own enjoyment

and the enjoyment of a small community with little expectation of virality,

especially as AI content overwhelms all major platforms.
