Christina's 5 questions for May 🤔

Christina posts her questions on gopher

How did April end for you: with a bang? or with a whimper?

Neither. My life has few bangs or whimpers. There's been talk of a new shed. I wrote an implementation of Dissociated Press which was quite entertaining. But nothing much happened out of the ordinary.

What's a website that was legendary a long time ago but is now "a ghost town?"

Definitely LiveJournal. It had a huge sense of community and I spent a lot of time on there. It felt like it was the future. But it got sold, and ended up as a cash cow run by awful people. I think it's still going, but I haven't been there for years. I'm on it's descendant, Dreamwidth, which I hoped would have some of the same spirit, but the community never happened for me there. And there's the centralisation thing.

What extinct website(s) are you grateful the Internet Wayback Machine archived?

I got the Whitespace language pages from there, which has given me a lot of fun in the last couple of years. And I've managed to rescure odds and ends of my ownb from in there. Thanks you, Wayback Machine.

Do you ever have days when you are certain none of the eight-plus billion people on the planet have made as many errors that day as you have?

My errors are as plentiful as raindrops in a monsoon, but also as small as raindrops, so they don't mater too much. Only occasionally do I make real howlers, and then it's hard to believe there's anyone in the world who feels as shitty. And no, I'm not going to give you an example.

Is there such a thing as spiritual affinity? Do kindred souls truly recognize each other from afar?

I'm not aware that my soul has ever been recognized from afar. I've felt drawn towards others like that occasionally, but then I have a word with myself and start behaving sensibly again. I've had unrequited love, and I didn't like it.
