Pro1 X Repair

I own an F(x)tec Pro1 X, a smartphone with a sliding-keyboard form factor. The device had a troubled production, badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and F(x)tec essentially ran out of money in the middle of the fulfillment process. As a result, most spare parts for the Pro1 X are almost impossible to find.
Two weeks ago, I accidentally dropped my Pro1 X on concrete, and the screen was severely damaged. Fortunately, the Elephone U Pro uses the same screen as the Pro1 X, so spares are readily available. I already had one on the way for an unrelated reason. However, spare Elephone screens have problems of their own:
- Almost every spare screen the community has been able to find so far is secondhand, and almost all of them have defects of some kind. The part is practically guaranteed to have at least one black spot somewhere.
- Worse, the screen digitizer's firmware for the Elephone doesn't quite match what is needed for the Pro1 X. This leads to a rather strange problem whereby the edges of the screen accept touch input, but touches cannot be initiated there. In other words, swiping one's finger from the middle of the screen to the edge works, but touching on the edge does not.
The second problem has a fix, but it requires owning F(x)tec's previous phone, the original Pro1. An OS update for that device contains the correct firmware patch for the digitizer, but that patch was not included in any Pro1 X firmwares because it was assumed the digitizer already had the correct firmware. The fix involves plugging the Pro1 X screen into the Pro1, flashing the updated firmware, and moving the screen back.
I didn't have an original Pro1 to perform the flash. I hoped that by a stroke of luck, I wouldn't need the fix, and the screen might contain the correct firmware out of the box. When the screen arrived Monday afternoon, I was dismayed to find that I was not lucky, and the edges of the screen were insensitive to touches.
As I prepared for the screen replacement, I discussed the screen issue on the F(x)tec community forum. As it turned out, a well-known member of the community had gotten into writer decks as a hobby and was already thinking about selling both his Pro1 and a spare Pro1 X. He warned me that he was having trouble flashing the required firmware onto the Pro1, but I was welcome to try it if I wanted--and I figured if that didn't work, I could cannibalize parts from the spare Pro1 X. I agreed to buy both smartphones from him and received them on Tuesday, the day after the spare Elephone screen arrived.
Yesterday I managed to flash the correct firmware onto the Pro1 using fastboot and, in the process, flash the needed firmware onto the Elephone screen's digitizer. My Pro1 X now has a fully functioning screen again. There are a few small black spots along the border, as is unfortunately expected with Elephone screens at this point, but it beats the meaningless flashing lines my Pro1 X screen was filled with before.
The forum member was also kind enough to send some spare parts, including two more Elephone screens. With the spare Pro1 X, I can now replace my screen at least three more times if needed.
My Pro1 X is very special to me. I didn't use full QWERTY smartphones back in the day, so the Pro1 X was my first introduction to this form factor. I absolutely love them. In fact, the Pro1 X would be my primary device, but it lacks some key compatibility with my carrier that makes it almost unusable on cellular networks. Instead, I now use it as a secondary device, hosting all the distracting apps I used to keep on my primary smartphone. It serves that purpose perfectly.
