If you want to play a "traditional roguelike" (as some call them), check out Cogmind. It's really cool; uses tile-based or ASCII graphics, has beautiful sound design, and the NPCs are really interesting. I've had Voidigo in my library for some time but haven't tried it yet. I'll have to give it a go now!
