data collection and retention policy
mohrie.net collects your data.
general
- data is messy - we try to store as little as possible.
- unless otherwise specified, all data is stored in Bucharest, Romania, on self-hosted infrastructure.
- we don't, and will not, share data with 3rd parties (unless compelled by Romanian law).
- logs are stored for a maximum of 7 days.
- for all connections, your IP address (and destination/target port) will be stored temporarily, until the connection ends - this is how the internet works.
web and gemini
when accessing websites or gemini capsules, the following information is logged:
- date and time of request
- IP address
- requested resource
- reply status code
- user agent (for web only)
this information may be used for troubleshooting and statistics.
xmpp
this section applies to anyone who has a mohrie.net XMPP account.
account
the following is stored until we process a request for deleting your account:
- your username
- a hash of your password
- last time you were connected to the server
message archive
for seamless history syncing between a user's clients, your device can store an archive of your messages (MAM) on the server. in that case, the messages will be stored for 7 days. you should be able to disable MAM in your client.
offline messages
to allow offline users to receive the messages you sent them when they reconnect, the server holds messages sent to offline users for 7 days.
uploaded files:
files sent using the HTTP upload service (the default way of sending files on XMPP) will be stored for 7 days.
other
the following will be stored until the deletion of your account:
- semi-public data: your avatar, OMEMO keys, your status message, etc.
- private data: list of your contacts, conference bookmarks, etc.
please check your XMPP client's settings and documentation to know exactly what data you are storing on the server.
irc
we log the following details about your connection to the IRC server:
- IP address and source port
- exact date, time, and duration
we do not store or log IRC messages.
shell access
- your username, source IP address, as well as time and duration of your connection are logged.
- super-user (doas) commands you issue may be logged.
- files you create under your home directory will be stored until you personally delete them or request your account to be deleted.
- your source IP address, date and time of connection will be available to other users of the system when they run the 'who' command.
- your SSH public key will be stored indefinitely.
dns
our name servers do not log DNS requests.
updates to this document
this document may be updated from time to time.
updates will be publicly announced 7 days before entering into effect; during that period, both versions of the document will coexist. after, the new version will replace the previous one.
