Characters

My characters are a very important part of who I am, and are a big focus in the stuff I do, so I wanted to write about some of the more important ones here.

Nova and Maffi are my fursonas and represent me in addition to being characters themselves. I have a bunch of others aside from just the ones I have listed here too!

Nova

Art of Nova, by tor_kl

Nova is a 90s animal mascot platformer character. That's the core idea of who she is - she can jump high and doesn't take fall damage, she respawns, and she tolerates a wide range of temperatures well for ice and lava levels to make sense. She's affected by video game logic and mechanics and they stay with her no matter where she is.

Nova appears in real video games! They're even typically on real retro game consoles - her debut game Nova the Squirrel is for NES, and she has a sequel in development for SNES! Typically in her games she is depicted as having the ability to copy abilities from enemies, similar to Kirby, but through the use of a projectile. But she would still be able to copy things if she was in a different setting. She usually does her own twist on different abilities the same way that the Animal Friends in Kirby each express abilities in their own way.

Aside from her own games, she has a guest appearance in Petal Crash as a secret character, and she's playable in Super Homebrew War! And you might find her in Shield Cat.

Her games are supposed to take place at some point in the past, and the lore is that she and Maffi work together to make them based on their past adventures. "Present-day" Nova (in addition to continuing to have some adventures) takes care of a nation she named Toasterland which is a post-scarcity world that exploits video game mechanics in order to ensure everyone has enough of everything they need. It's really more of a mayoral role but that doesn't stop her from playfully treating it like a princess thing, including dressing the part. That doesn't mean everyone she meets is always in on that, though.

Nova is really into playing the role of a hero and she loves going on cool adventures where she's able to put her abilities to use (and help people while having fun). She doesn't handle being bored too well and she feels like she always has to be doing something. She really enjoys amusement parks and other thrills that allow her to go really fast.

Maffi

Art of Maffi, by Taffyclaws

Maffi is a SNES mouse! She has a SNES controller cable for a tail, and she can plug it into computers in order to interface with them. This mostly amounts to moving the mouse cursor around exactly how she wants it, just as easy as if it were a body part. Having perfect mouse cursor precision means she's very well-equipped to do digital art, which she does for fun.

Another thing Maffi's tail can do is allow her to enter computers, and anyone holding onto her can come with her! If it's connected to the Internet she can traverse the network and cyberspace. She does a lot of work on network maintenance and making it easier for different worlds to connect and communicate. This is her main "job" she does. She also has her own little digital world she looks after named Tilemap Town which is her own take on a post-scarcity utopia, in a bit of a different form from Nova's.

Aside from her tail, she has the ability to apply "affine transformations" to things - that is, she can apply geometric transformations like scaling, translation, rotation, flipping, etc. to objects or sometimes people, with limitations. When she applies an affine transformation to something, a transformation matrix appears in the air that she can manipulate with her fingers. She mostly just uses this to scale herself down when she wants to be a tiny mouse.

Maffi is a cute, shy nerd who's still very open to making friends and getting to know people, and she loves learning for the sake of learning, and often this helps her out because little bits of information she remembers reading can come in handy. She loves creating things, and in addition to art she likes to do crafts, and she can program and write Verilog too (which comes in handy when making things to use with her tail). She teams up with Nova to make video games about their past adventures.

Rosy Sky

Art of Rosy Sky, by Porbol

Rosy Sky is a cute flying fox with a tummy symbol, who promotes friendship and love, and caring about other people. She's similar to, but distinct from a Care Bear Cousin, and she has similar abilities, with the main difference being that her Care Bear Stare works differently. She doesn't mind people considering her a Care Bear. She's extremely huggable. Rosy came into existence as a gift to her world, and she now uses her magic to give gifts to other worlds as well.

Rosy Sky has a motherly personality (like a Toriel but even sillier?) and she helps out with friendship problems and providing comfort where people need it. She tries to help put people in better situations than they were in before, and she emphasizes the importance of taking care of yourself, and separating yourself from harmful situations. One of the things her Stare can do is change someone else into a plush version of themselves, for as long as they like. This is used to help put people into a spot where they don't have any worries and can relax.

She leads a team (named "Harmonic Dreamers") that's similar to the actual Care Bear group, with similar purposes. There was a team in the past with the same name, which broke apart due to corruption from Scuffle Stormcloud who turned everyone against each other. This brought Rosy Sky into the world as a gift to it, and over time she would realize she was likely intended to gather everyone together again and fix things. So far she's only been able to find Solada Sunset.

Aside from her Stare, her symbol can also be used to create magical hearts with different uses. They're usually (but not always) "solid", but breakable with some force, and they go away on their own after a bit of time. She can use these as projectiles, barriers, or whatever really.

Sherbet

Art of Sherbet, by Taffyclaws

Sherbet is a fox taur who runs a dessert shop all by herself and makes all of the food she sells there, using fruits and berries she grew in her garden. She has ice magic, which she uses to help make desserts. Despite having ice magic she's very floofy and warm with all that green fur.

She likes gardening and she appreciates pretty flowers, and she tries to keep her garden looking really nice. She has a wide variety of interesting plants gathered from far away and it's a pretty display of many different colors. She likes showing it off and telling everyone about what she's got growing.

She loves to meet taurs and she's very happy to be a taur herself, and she loves her body even though it's a bit bulky. She's very happy to give rides on her back and spend time with people who love taurs. She's very silly and carefree (sometimes silly in a very cartoonish way), though she's still responsible. She's careful not to hurt anyone or damage anything in her silliness.

Sherbet owns an orange scarf that turns her into a pony when she wears it. She likes befriending ponies and exploring pony areas, all while refusing to explain why she always wears a scarf and refusing to ever take it off. Though if she trusts someone and knows they'll handle it fine she'll let them know who she really is. She does a bad job at hiding that she's usually a fox though and she'll use lots of fox body language on accident.

For specifics on Sherbet's ice magic, she can use her ice powers to quickly freeze water or other liquids, and prevent it from melting on its own. She can use it to make tools, walls, blocks and other things out of ice as long as she has water for it. To put things into the right shape quickly she carries ice molds with her in her inventory.

Clover

Art of Clover, by Softponies

Clover was originally a human girl who spent a lot of her time reading and playing video games, especially RPGs. She was really fascinated with RPGs and could tell you all about the stories, and the worlds and characters within them. She'd fantasize about going to those worlds, and going on adventures that seemed much more exciting than her mundane life at home. She didn't have many friends, but the ones she did have were very dear to her, and she liked spending time with them. Most other people thought of Clover as a weird awkward nerd and didn't really want to interact with her that much.

Clover's life changed significantly when she found a weird necklace with a heart shaped jewel on it - it seemed magical, but magic doesn't exist, right? She held onto it, and kept it with her in the hopes of studying it and figuring out what exactly it was about, but no matter what she was never able to make any sense of it. Then one day while playing a Dragon Quest game, she slipped back into fantasizing about being in that world, and the jewel started glowing with lots of energy, and before too long she was no longer in her bedroom - she was out on the countryside...? What's more, there seemed to be weird creatures out in the distance... she walks cautiously toward them before making out a slime, silly smile and all. Did her dream finally, somehow, come true...? But her body felt weird, and she looking at herself soon revealed that she had become a bunicorn!

Clover had to figure out how to live in this new world - which was easy, when she knew all about it! There were so many places she wanted to go, so many critters to meet and see *in person* but after awhile she started to miss her old friends. She realized they were probably worried about whatever happened to her, and she made it her quest to figure out how to get in touch with them again, so she brought that weird necklace with her in the hopes that somehow she would be able to figure things out and reunite. She didn't want to go back to her old life, or even change back, but they were one aspect of her life she didn't want to go without.

Eventually Clover ended up finding an island she could build on and shape to her wishes, and she made a little village there for her and other Dragon Quest monsters. At some point while playing with magical items, she got sent to Traverse Town where she met Nell and Tixie, and after some theft of gummi ship parts they started going to different worlds and solving problems there, Kingdom Hearts style. Clover and Nell have also spent a lot of time at "Tilemap Town" which seems like a cozy place that works very similar to her island does. She's still on the lookout for cool adventures to go on, excited to have the opportunity to play the role of a hero, especially alongside her new friends.
