MY LITTLE REVIEW FOR THE RG35XXSP RETRO HANDHELD CONSOLE
A SECOND THOUGH
In late July (2025) I wrote my little review about this handheld console that mimic the look & feel of the glorious Nintendo GameBoy Advance SP:
# My Little Review For The RG35XXSP Retro Handheld Console
My final comments weren't very positive about my personal experience, so what has pushed me to write again about this little console?
Some positive vibes…
Indeed! Extremely positive!
The experience with MustardOS, better known as MuOS, went beyond my expectations, reverting almost completely my opinion about this retro-console!
While the issues with the controls (including the annoying click-y sounds) are still there, the whole experience has improved dramatically: from the dozens of skins available; the emulation practically perfect; and the hidden options not available on the stock software. Now the console is pushed up to its limits and the feeling is to have on your hands a total different and capable hardware!
For instance I was able to emulate smoothly some Dreamcast games, and while I recognize the resolution and the controls don't fit Dreamcast games, I am still astonishing about the quality of the emulation!
Were you wrong about it?
Actually I was… 😳
I read a lot of satisfied people with this little console and MuOS, and I must to join the choir: if you like playing glorious 8/16Bit games, and you want, from time to time, to explore titles from the next generations this console is just right.
Is it really possible that you did not find any shortcoming?
Eh… Eh… This gemlog was becoming too good… 😈
Actually I have a couple of recommendation to address to both MuOS and LibRetro although I am not sure who would be directly involved… 🤔
Controls
It would be nice if click on the menu button bring you on the main menu, instead of the classic two buttons combo typical of LibRetro; perhaps this behavior can be changed but I was too lazy to fully dig into the options.
Savings
Once again having the time stamp next to the slot and the screenshot would be very handful to recognize what are the most recent (or not recent) save states.
Perhaps in the future this simple changes might become a reality, how knows… 🤷
Wrapping this up
Now I am extremely happy with the Anbernic RG35XXSP, I don't feel anymore I wasted my money, I play old titles and I am extremely delighted.
