What is Gemini?
Gemini is an Internet protocol for requesting and serving documents (similar in spirit to early web/gopher),
with deliberate constraints to keep it simple, privacy-respecting, and consistent.
Key ideas (plain language)
- Text-first documents (gemtext)
- Encrypted connections (TLS)
- No scripts, no ads, no tracking mechanisms built into the format
- Simple request/response model
Vocabulary
- Capsule: a Gemini site
- Client: a Gemini browser/app
- Gemtext: the Gemini text format
