I found something — an old East German VEB Van de Graaff generator (educational model). Since the original rubber band is broken and the model has to be picked up (it can’t be shipped), it’s a real bargain. With a new rubber band, it should be fully functional again, and I’m curious to see if it can really store enough energy to produce visible electrical sparks.... What do you think?

The Whimshurst Machine was also very common in east german classrooms and it definately can produce visible sparks. · 1 month ago
