they've made getting music so annoying I'm back to checking CDs out of my library and ripping them

@nexx yes that’s def one of the intricacies of rym. Uhh, ahem, I will say in the interest of avoiding liability to do with martinrue’s service, legal scrutiny, and ‘aiding participation’ I shall refrain from any ‘explicit’ recommendations for which such things are possible.
Now, that said, all i WILL tell ya - check ashnar’s comment, and my own before your gabber mention, do a search engine query, yk usual stuff B^) · 4 weeks ago
@ashnar sshh sshh!!! nothin was explicitly saiiid, no harm no foul, let’s not be too hasty and namedrop now… · 4 weeks ago
@userfxnet It looks like it'll be a pretty good source. Sadly some of the more obscure(?) artists I've found and can't tell if the few tracks uploaded 15 years ago are their only ones won't show up. · 4 weeks ago
@userfxnet I've never heard of it, but I'll make sure to check it out. Any way to obtain files you'd recommend? · 4 weeks ago

@nthcdr : "...I'm on a family plan and I don't want to take that fight with my kids and wife who live for that shit product."
I had the same fight with my own family but, since I was the one paying the subscription, it was a fight I was always going to win.
Turns out they didn't want it badly enough to open their own wallets. · 4 weeks ago
@nexx ever use rateyourmusic for curation? if you pair that with i meeeaan a VARIETY of ways to find >filez< then I feel once you got that, you're in top shape. · 4 weeks ago
@fairlygood I like gabber and other stuff like terrorcore. The only way I was able to amass a collection was YouTube, soundcloud, and bandcamp. Damn Youtube for banning Piteronio. · 1 month ago

I like having a collection of mp3s.
Plex / Plexamp provides a really good experience. · 1 month ago
funny how all my music ...style? Taste? (dont play songs, only play albums, KEXP partisanship...) all stems from my time in a bicycle repair shop #symbiosis · 1 month ago
@mascarpone hell yeah. One of my coworkers' spouses works in traditional radio, that got me trying it again. · 1 month ago
Last year I bought a portable CD player and an aux cable as my car cd player is broken. It also means I can plug my cassette player in. I'm listening through the Linkin Park discography right now and remembering how I rented Minutes to Midnight from the library and ripped it years ago (I now have access to a physical copy as my partner has one). I should get back to using yt-dlp to get stuff off youtube. I do buy what I can, though. · 1 month ago
I used spotify on a 'family plan' with a bunch of college friends, and at some point I had to delete and create my account - tho the account owner re-added me to the family plan.... I was still getting ads? Unforgivable. I left permanently. I can't easily share music in the car with them any more, but I can uses spotdl to access their curated playlists :) · 1 month ago
I begrudgingly use Spotify but they just keep making it worse and worse. My problem is I'm on a family plan and I don't want to take that fight with my kids and wife who live for that shit product. · 1 month ago
