2025-11-10 — Re: 3 reasons why KDE > Xfce
Sure, I'll bite. I don't really have a horse in this race since I mainly use niri[1] as my window manager / Wayland compositor, but I do like both projects for what they're trying to do. A little healthy competition never hurt anyone 0:3
1. Wayland Support
KDE's has **much** better Wayland support than Xfce, at least as far as I can tell. Xfce's Wayland is still very much a work-in-progress, and according to their own documentation, they're still heavily focusing on stability and performance over feature parity with X11:
For Xfce 4.22, the stabilization work continues. Reaching X11 feature parity is not yet our target.

KDE, on the other hand, has much better Wayland support. New features for the Wayland version of KWin, including Picture-in-Picture support[2], are frequent, signaling a focus on greater X11 feature parity.
2. App Suite
This is not a particularly *fair* comparison (it's kinda like pitting an eight-year-old who's just getting into fighting games against EVO legend Justin Wong[3]), but I appreciate the app suite of KDE far more than what's bundled with Xfce.
The file manager, Dolphin, is my go-to file manager — even on systems **without** KDE installed!
I haven't had as much experience with Xfce's apps, but they never really left any impression on me like KDE's apps have.
3. Mascot
Konqi is better than Xue. Fight me.

Conclusion
Use any window manager you want. As long as it isn't Hyprland or dwm. :3c
Oh, and I wrote this post on Draft for iOS during my lunch break! Remind me to make a post about it and its macOS counterpart later.
