Questioning religions
What are your critical questions about religion? Post them here, so we can compile a list of those questions.
I will attempt to remove duplicates in the list, but they can stay in the comment section. Please like one, instead of duplicating it. Also, keep it short, and no conversation in this thread please.

Is Jesus made of wood? ;-)

How much water is required to flood the entire surface of the earth?
Why did the animals have to suffer from the flood?
Can humans be smarter then the devil?
If Jesus claimed his diciples to be able to move mountains if they believed hard enough, why didn't he free himself from the cross?
Can god create a stone he cannot lift?
What I want to know is:
What is the purpose of religion?
Is it a set of stories to help us be good?
If so, why do we need stories to be good?
Why should I be bothered by people with their silly rituals and untrue beliefs (yes, some people actually believe them, not everyone sees them as just metaphor) to try and make me fit their definition of good?
Why can't they try to reason me to their values instead?

Why do we have the need to believe in a higher power to explain the unknown? why can't we just be okay with not knowing?

How to defend:
- Free will is for some reason SO essential that God must allow evil to preserve it
- God regularly overrides free will to save certain individuals
- Moral choices through free will are necessary for salvation
- Some people are saved without making any moral choices

Do I have to thank a god and his son to be happy in life?
