Why do we have the need to believe in a higher power to explain the unknown? why can't we just be okay with not knowing?

How to defend:
- Free will is for some reason SO essential that God must allow evil to preserve it
- God regularly overrides free will to save certain individuals
- Moral choices through free will are necessary for salvation
- Some people are saved without making any moral choices
