A Makeshift Workspace
A super-flexible workspace: check!
For about $65 I got
- a table-clamp vertical post monitor arm,
- a 3-segment extra-long extension
There is a little rolling cart/table (with a wire basket for my notebook and power supplies) in the closet to which the post is attached. I can swing the monitor right into the closet when not using it. I can also roll the cart anywhere if the futon is in use by guests.
My trusted Das keyboard goes on my lap, of course.
Finally -- using a notebook was taking a toll on my wrists, my back, and my eyes.

The monitor lifts right off the mount, and the pipe you see below pops right into the base should I decide to keep it on some surface later.
I am totally against desks these days -- any flat space just accumulates distracting junk.

I would blow out the budget, but if you could add one of those ergonomic split keyboards that include a trackball and can be mounted on their own bracket, that would be the ultimate deskless experience. XD

I could never go back to a keyboard above my bellybutton!
I could see using a completely split keyboard on either side of me, if I could find a reasonable one with a long cord connecting the halves. All split keyboards I've owned had maybe 4 inches of connecting cord!

This one is coming to the end of its lifespan... I will miss it, having written a lot of code here lately.
The futon is leaving and a Murphy bed will replace it, leaving me no place to sit. I will probably keep the configuration and drag in a big chair to sit on.
