Obtainium

Do any of you use Obtainium to get &/or update apps? If so, have you found a way to get signal or brave or the like working via this? Do you think Obtainium is better than other repositories like f-droid or not, and if so... why? I'm curious whether I should go figure it out because the Aurora Store using false google accts annoys me.

I use Obtanium, mostly for apps related to Nostr (for example, my preferred client Amethyst). I haven't tried getting Signal there, I use Aurora for that...

It's strange that Signal and Brave aren't on f-droid. I wish they were. That's the only reason I use the Aurora store at all. Signal should be able to be on f-droid... it's open source, right?

That said @Hanzbricks since you use Molly, is it compatible with people using Signal? It took a while to get my friends/family/others to use Signal as the means of communication... I'd use a new client, but I'd rather not have to switch everyone over to something else. The next time I tell people to move to a different app, it's going to be something that connects to the server I run myself. Which... might take a while.

Could I use Molly on my phone and continue to use signal desktop on my computers? Or will they not play nice together?

I just get signal apk from their website

Thanks all; this was helpful. I may well move to Molly (or maybe Session? more research is needed). As for brave... I mostly just like the adblocking... but if there are free-er options, I'm open to looking.

Signal is on F-droid now. I use Obtainium to monitor updates for the few apps that I have a direct APK link to.
