I've been using Lineage on a Oneplus for couple of weeks and been very happy about it. No changes compared to my previous android which had Google services and all possible google things turned off. Except of course, now there is no google. I recommend Lineage OS over Graphene as the latter IS a google phone.

Opinions: use of banking apps on graphene

My son is the only person I know in real life -- other than me -- who insists on using a de-Googled phone. Other members of my family won't do it, even being fully aware of the privacy hazards or regular Android. Most people I talk to don't even realize it's an option. So I wondered : how many de-Googled phone users know other de-Googled phone users in real life? Of course there are plenty online. But personally?

I put graphene on my Pixel. I then read about google locking apps down. can someone tell me how this affects things like graphene and fdroid? fdroid looks like it's gonna get killed off. can we still put custom ROMs on our phones? what about apps?

Just read this post from @Rymden, lamenting the difficulty of buying a small smartphone with modern features: [gemini link] Rymden (IIUC) would prefer less Google surveillance, but it might be inconvenient: > ..I might even have to trade my digital public transit ticket for a physical card. So I end up with a smaller, less annoying and surveilled phone, but have to carry a bunch of other crap with me instead. I'm just not convinced it's worth it. Personally, I'm willing to endure a _lot_...

Hi everyone, do you know about an android app available either through f-droid, as a sideloaded app or that doesn't embed any tracker or app to convert pictures into small size dithered images? Wondering if my only option are linux tools loaded in termux.

Lineage 22 has arrived for my trusty old redmi. Thanks to 0xCAFEBABE, my 2017 smartphone will make the jump to Android 15. Not yet though, as I'm traveling and I don't want to make a mistake during flashing and be left without a phone, but as soon as I get home.

Obtainium — Do any of you use Obtainium to get &/or update apps? If so, have you found a way to get signal or brave or the like working via this? Do you think Obtainium is better than other repositories like f-droid or not, and if so... why? I'm curious whether I should go figure it out because the Aurora Store using false google accts annoys me.

Recently had to replace my PostmarketOS OP6T due to the death of 3G. PMOS doesn't support VoLTE yet and from what I can see priority for the project at the mo is improvements to project infrastructure and switching to both systemd and an immutable base. So, not confident it's something that will get sorted in the near term. Did some research and GrapheneOS seemed like the best alternative so with "some" irony I now own a Google Pixel mobile. GrapheneOS was a breeze to install via WebUSB and...

Just out of curiosity: what non-FOSS apps, if any, do you still use on your degoogled phone?

KaiOS — What are the opinions here on KaiOS? I see a bunch of feature phones with it, but I'm unsure if I should trust it.

No Google? No Maps! No Friends 🏝 — TLDR; We rely too heavily on links to convey and discuss locations and it is not universally interoperable. If it wasn't for Google's obvious monopoly we would have solved this already. 📱 I've been using LineageOS for about a year now with very few complaints. I actually installed LineageOS , then GrapheneOS, then LineagOS and then LineageOS again on the same phone as I figured out how to get an OS that meets my needs (and also figure out what I actually *...

What makes it so there are only a handful of phone models that can run degoogled systems? Why doesn't it work like on the PC, where you can just put any Linux distro on any machine?

Hi! I just started this Degoogled Phones subspace, and would love to hear from those of you who have any experience installing systems like eOS or LineageOS on their phones... How difficult or risky was it?... Would you recommend it?... That type of stuff... Welcome and thank you in advance! Cheers!
