I'm away often and considered setting up some cameras. any advice or words of warning?
I almost bought a few double decker ESP 32 cams but then decided to ask here first

I haven’t used them before but I guess general IoT security stuff. Channel is likely unencrypted, so make sure whether you connect them to Wi-Fi or ESPNOW you use strong passwords and I would personally not expose it to the internet but only through a VPN. (I’m a huge fan of Tailscale for stuff like this). Also apparently theft of cameras is a thing.
Would this be for real-time monitoring only or would you be capturing video/stills when movement is detected? And if so, how? (I'm interested in doing this.)

It's a bit complicated.
- I want to be able to look in and see what's going on in various areas;
- perhaps keep a rotating image log (every few seconds stills or something like that)
- I want certain indoor areas to be monitored for motion, with possible alert.
The first one is a peace-of-mind goal, and I want to start with that.
