just watched some meshtastic and the reticulum talks of 38c3 congress...

i want to build one solar driven base-station and equip each family member with a modul (also the chicken shed and some other projects around the house. but i want to run/use reticulum on them.

what is the best hardware to buy for this purpose?

LilyGo makes a lot of LoRa devices for meshtastic that are pretty good. Reticulum produced some ESP32 firmware implementation called RNode that should run on these devices.

I use Meshtastic and Reticulum. If you want cheap lora board that work for the 2 projects : heltec v3.

Depending on what you want to do, meshtastic is more a communication project and Reticulum more a network project.

I'm on reticulum and I own a proxy for Gemini and Gopher.

You can test Reticulum without lora because you can use wifi, network, ham radio, lora ...

If you are thinking of powering your base station, don't forget to over dimetion your solar power solution so it works in the winter or use the power grid as a backup during the time you evalulate your choise.

Thanks_ Currently running reticulum on a linux phone (tcp). After 2,5years cycling the world, we want to settle down in a very rural area. Since I could survive without a sim card i want to stay without. The idea is to have internet at home, then an antenna on the roof so we can communicate together via reticulum around the area and maybe even forward other messengers over it (can i forward internet access via lora/reticulum?) I also want to connect sensors and stuff around the house to collect infos about various food growing projects. since i like reticulum as a protocol and its ssh replacement features, i really like to use it to learn more about it and maybe even develop some foss farming things...

i am aware about power in winter... this is going to be another challenge. We want to be disconnected of the grid, i have some ideas in mind for solutions with gravity batteries as a backup... there is no experience of very cold environments yet... but its our new life challenge (instead of survive on a bike :)
