REPLACED BY AI

Man, I feel your pain!
Losing your $150K job after loading up on real estate, because, you know, as Realtors (R) tell you, now is the best time to buy and sell real estate!
I've spent over a year writing code with ChatGPT as a very dumb assistant. To be fair, human assistants I''ve had were e en worse and generally could not show up on time, never mind being actually knowlegeable or helpful.
ChatGPT is very useful when you can't remember an Emacs key binding, but it is the worst programmer I've seen. Every non-trivial code snippet it generates is incorrect, convoluted or both.
So, to be replaced by AI as a coder you really have to be a profoundly bad coder. Or maybe your employer doesn't need to write code, or both.

I think there's going to be a strong inertia between suits replacing humans with AI because money โ (fewer) humans + AI now producing worse software โ worse software reaching users โ users having enough time to realize new software is crap โ users complaining to humans โ humans telling suits โ suits understanding. And it's all happening while AI is getting better, or at least it's not getting worse.

users having enough time to realize new software is crap
That never stopped Microsoft's offshoring. It won't stop AI.

Exactly. Crap software is the norm. Coincidentally, very large in size.
Big code is a sign of AI or a weak mind or both. Either way it's going to suck.
I often look at the size. If it's 100MB it's crap, guaranteed. If it's 100K, it may be low on features but at least written by a person with some goal in mind.
Some adjustments are required depending on the type of software.
