Make no mistake, we will never see what is in the Epstein files

Congress is set to vote on and pass a bill requiring the release of these files after months of stalling by the Speaker. President Trump has had an uncharacteristic reversal and is pushing Congress to release the Epstein files. Why? It has everything to do with the probes launched against Democrats (and only Democrats) in the files. The Justice Dept has already looked at what they have and decided (rightly or wrongly) not to prosecute. There is no new information. So why take another look and why now? Well, now they are "part of an investigation" and can't be released. Who knows how many years that investigation will take.

I think it is not Trump but someone else being protected. Probably more than one person.

Obviously everyone knew about this, but 'boys will be boys'...

We know he's in there and what details have emerged aren't what folks of good moral character do. But that's hardly news independent of this particular issue. Who would he protect and what possible favor could they do for him? Remember: every interaction he has with another human being is transactional. Being president, there really isn't much else he could want. Who would he protect? His eldest son perhaps? Unfounded speculation on my part.

I'm frankly just wondering why Trump bothered assosiating with Epstien in the first place, I'm still hoping he gets arrested when he's not president anymore, alongside the rest of the Republican party.

Same reason anybody did. They were rich, powerful, and thought they could get away with it. Who was gonna stop them? Me? I'm nobody!

@darkghost: yes, son or relative, or like you said, transactional. A pretty effective way to influence people.

@bsj38381: Fun parties. I don't think T will be arrested, I doubt he did anything worse than Bill Clinton whose photo (wearing a dress) was on the wall there.

They all knew, but 'it was a different time. I remember being called a faggot for not taking advantage of a drunk girl.

I have a slightly different take. Trump knew the House was going to vote to release the files (despite his best efforts). Once passed, the resolution has to be taken up and voted on by the Senate. After that, Trump has to sign the bill. A lot can happen along the way. He effectively bought himself time to continue whatever election subversion they're planning for 2026 (gerrymandering, voter purges, restricting mail-in, martial law, etc).

My understanding is that Trump could just sign an order to release the files and bypass Congress altogether. That's not going to happen since he's obviously implicated.

The truth may be more even more absurd. There's Bloomberg reporting that the FBI has simply redacted Trump's name from the documents.

They can't be that incompetent... *thinks about how the year has been going* Of course that's what they did!
