Home Coffee Roaster?
I'm thinking about getting a home coffee roaster. Something mildly automated, that's capable of fine-tuning a roast, and will do the stirring/mixing for me. Does anyone have experience with this, or have a machine they reccommend?

The roasters I have experience with are only slightly more hands off than just doing it in a pan. You still must mind them closely for a good roast.

my wife graduated to a Hot Top roaster after using a modified whirly popper. It's an electric drum roaster, and you can adjust fan speed as well as temperature. It's a tank, and can do a solid roast on a 250 g batch.

A Hottop looks great, but the pricetag puts it outside my realistic window. I'm doing a modded whirley popper right now. Maybe a modified popcorn popper?

TBH, if the hot top is out of your budget range, I'd stick with the whirley pop. the automation on a cheaper unit and the heating element isn't going to give you as nice a roast as hand-stirring the beans yourself over a stovetop.
Ooh, I was just thinking about trying this. I’m on a radical DIY kick, trying to make as many things as possible myself, from the raw ingredient. Roasted coffee is on my list.
Anyone tried a Behmor? There are very limited options where I am based. I drink very lightly roasted beans, maybe I should just try the stovetop as a starter.
