...and I find myself still using neovim. I do go back to it from time to time. I recently removed evil entirely from my config. I feel like the primary blocker is not knowing enough, or not being proficient enough, yet. the longer break I take from emacs it seems the more I struggle to use it effectively the next time I go back to it.

the solution? I guess I'll have to continue (re)learning thoroughly when I get the time.

You are probably overwhelmed by Emacs videos and other people's setups, and cannot find a setup for yourself. There are only two ways: stick to good configurations like Spacemacs or Doom, or use vanilla Emacs and build it up step by step. If you are going to use Emacs as a text editor, then just edit text in it. It took me over 15 years to feel native in Emacs. Don't make the mistake of technology hopping; it doesn't make any difference where you edit your text file until you understand the difference personally for yourself, not the difference shown in somebody else's video.

I'm mostly use VsCodium, but I'll still mess around with Emacs on my Win 11 Laptop.
