MVG workers go on strike, U3, U6, and some tram lines expected to be temporarily disrupted
So the workers union is going on strike again, which will make some of the subway lines impossible to rely on. I have mixed feelings about this, but I think it's good. I would have loved if the general population had a way to put a bit of an extra pressure on the companies that find it normal to bump the price by nearly 10% once or twice a year, yet struggle to find common ground with the workers it employes to provide service. I also wish there were alternative ways to, you know, get around town in the morning, which is part of many people's routine.
This particular workers union goes crazy at times, like sending the airport workers on strike in August. It's partially to make as many people angry as possible, but it's unclear whether it really is as effective as the union leadership think it is. Mostly annoying, really, and for kind of a wrong reason. In this economy, there's probably gonna be more annoying, more frequently.
Anyways, I stand with the workers. I believe if the business is okay with upping the prices way above inflation, they should be able to affort the salaries of the workers to be adjusted accordingly. There's not just that, it's also working conditions and such. Hope it resolves in a meaningful gain for the workers.
