mdbook is great indeed. For Markdown to gemtext conversion, i found this tool called gemgen, haven't tried it but it looks good:

I’m also doing this with the intention of creating a build for Geminispace as well Are there any well-tested Markdown to Gemtext converters that would suit my needs?
