Re: "Air Canada Takes Action"

I can see them landing a plane, scrambling down from the tower to get on the plane, only to throw the pilot down on the floor and step on his neck screaming something incomprehensible about chem trails.

Infinitely tragic/ironic that the attempt to lock up ICE funding is just screwing up our air travel safety, while ICE is still funded enough to "help out" the defunded airport workers.

Someone has their head up their collective ass to support that "resistance".

๐Ÿ‘ป darkghost ยท Mar 31 at 21:19:

Given that ICE is funded for 4 years, there isn't much anybody can do to hold them accountable. Which is, of course, by design.

A colleague of mine is a contractor for the air force designing field rations. They got a memo from Hegseth (on fancy new DoW stationary) encouraging everybody to join ICE. There's a lot of overlap there, you know.

I think the whole ICE at airports was a threat to try and clear the logjam. They're mostly standing around because an airport is about the least likely place you'll find an illegal immigrant. Add it all to the long list of nonsensical crap the past year and 2 months has brought us.

Agreed. But I thought ICE was sent to airports to help with long lines... You now. for moral support. When you see a masked man armed to the teeth, you can't help but feel better.

When I traveled to Mexico city I was in the gringo area. There was a kindly police officer with a sub machine gun strapped to their chest. Same thing here. Security theater.

In El Salvador, the security check was a card table with a box of rubber gloves and a guy with a machine gun, who would pick someone out of the line and snap on the gloves with a menacing sound before taking them in the back.

Terrifying.

Nothing more menacing than a card table

You know what I mean -- the makeshift nature and complete lack of protocols. Whatever the guy says is the law.

I still remember the snap of the gloves.

I know, I was being unserious. Although I guess you could say the card table *is* terrifying because it speaks exactly to the makeshift and arbitrary manner of law in which you find yourself at the complete mercy of. These guys woke up and decided to do this without thinking through anything, including procuring a wooden table or booth.

I get the impression that the CEO already had enemies. This isn't the first time he has been condemned for not learning French. The latest incident was just an excuse to push him out, and for a few politicians (Including both the PM himself and the Premier of Quebec) to make a public demonstration of patriotism.

Air Canada Takes Action โ€” Je me souviens. In the aftermath of the LaGuardia Airport collision, what does Air Canada do to make sure it doesn't happen again? You might imagine -- improving protocols and coordination between the entities running different parts of airports, communication with ground control, or maybe applying political pressure to better fund airport staff... Nope. They ousted the CEO for saying the condolences in English. That will fix the problem.
