I misread this the first time and thought your grandfather was an entomologist and you were annoyed he made you gather his bugs instead of playing on the PC :') I can remember playing a Maths based game where you explored a medieval castle and had to do basic sums to progress. Wonder if I could find it...

I bought a PC game for the kids (now in their 30s) that was something like that. The background song was

Yeah. There were some other games, where you could make 'a feathered friend', and the worst one, where Fatty Bear (usually called Farty Bear) played against you and sometimes cheated, causing much crying.
Almost sounds like something from the Super Solvers series. They had a bunch of games like that. Fits edutainment too.

I remember as a child, around 5 or so, my grandfather had an old mac computer. I can't remember what kind, but it had a CRT monitor I believe. There was an old edutainment game that all I remember of was this old man, some sort of researcher or entomologist, and he knocked something over and let all of his bugs loose. I distinctly remember walking to the net in the corner and getting agitated because I had to use math instead of grabbing the net to catch them again, as what made the most sense...
