Re: "Project Hail Mary"

I've read the book and thought it was entertaining. Not as grounded as The Martian; you'll need to suspend your disbelief a bit harder with this one. Still, Weir writes physics and science in an enjoyable way.

Will probably go see the movie at some point.

Mine is definitely a minority opinion, but I found the main character extremely annoying. He’s a science teacher, but has a practical knowledge of basically every scientific discipline. It felt to me like the author just wanted to write about science and wrapped a loose (very loose) plot around it.

I was quite annoyed at myself for finishing it.

The movie is genuinely good though.

Great film. I loved seeing an author try to make an alien which was actually 'alien', not someone with plastic on their face.

Interesting. I can't think of too many non-humanoid aliens in mainstream movies.

The most extreme is the Ocean in Solaris. I suppose.

Project Hail Mary β€” I went to see this film at the cinema tonight - somewhat reluctantly, I might add, because I thought the book was terrible. Turns out a bad book can be made into a good film. Worth a watch if you find yourself in the mood for accessible science fiction.
