@manat Posting as "Anonymous Coward" a la Slashdot while still having a normal account seems like a half measure that's not really addressing the issue. It also shifts the power balance by giving the admin more "secret knowledge" over regular users, which I find an uncomfortable notion. Furthermore, it complicates the software and there is a chance of leaking the real identity of a post/comment via bugs.

Anyone seeking true anonymity is better served by registering a throwaway account.

@skyjake a la Slashdot? True, altough throwaway accounts would clog up normal regestirations.

From personal experience, the world may be better if we all shut the heck up and do something useful instead. There is just too much blabbing about things we can do nothing about. Especially if blabbing anonymously is somehow attractive.

Doing something useful is a whole other can of worms. But at least there will be less noise.

@stack Blabbering is the useful activity. Philosophers only blabbered, but by doing so they made modern STEM fields. Also, blabbering is the thing we are doing to β€œthings we can do nothing about”. Shutting up is the doing of nothing.

I am becoming fond of nothing. Less damage.

@stack : "There is just too much blabbing about things we can do nothing about."

How much is "too much"? Sometimes the blabbing is helpful. When you're confronted by some colossal horribleness, and you think you're the only person on Earth who gives a shit, it can be helpful to find you're not entirely alone. Maybe you'll realize that the problem really is in the world, and not just your head, and it's worth trying to do something.

I accept, though, that some people blab as an alternative to action.

I am kind of sick and tired of my morning coffeemates talking exclusively of 'did you hear what Trump did...'. Obviously 50% or so don't think they are alone.

I may be alone in wishing people would stop this blizzare form of worship.

I think the point of free speech is to keep people from doing anything.

@stack : well, somebody tried to do something, at the Correspondents' Dinner. On balance, blabbing is probably more ethically acceptable and, in this case, about equally effective.

At this event, yes

@stack You need better mates. Mine talk about hot anime boys, apparently.

Should there be a feature to allow users to post without a certificate? This relates directly to my previous post, where I have issues with the profileabillity of what I say here. Not having a username attached to posts should make it harder to connect them, and thus profile the users behind said posts. I know this might make it harder to moderate the site and mass delete spammers, but I think it’s worth it as I didn’t see that many bad actors since I started visiting this place. There can even…
