Failure to assimilate and normalize differences results in terribleness. It is fine to appreciate and honor our diverging pasts, but it always pains me to see terrible segregation and racism these days, especially when it's under the guise of 'protecting our identity'. Propagandists and politcians are really good at convincing the underdog to do self-harmful things in the name of preserving identity -- be it Ukrainian or Trans people.
