Bio
knshow
I was born and raised in Japan and have never lived abroad.
I hope to at least become able to read English someday.
Also, with more people from overseas living in Japan now, I'd love to learn more about different cultures from around the world.
My Favorites
- Anime, Manga, and Video Games
- Vocaloid and Anime Songs (Anisong)
- Vtubers
- Personality Tests (They're interesting!)
- Peaceful everyday life
Current Environment
OS: Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)
DE: LXQt 2.1.0 (liblxqt 2.1.0)
Qt: 6.7.2
Browser: Lagrange v1.20.4 (AppImage)
Smartphone: iPhone 12 Pro & Lagrange
[Why do I use AppImage?]
Before switching to Debian, I was using Lubuntu. Back then, I didn't know much about Linux, so I was installing various things without really understanding apt or Flatpak.
And... wow. Files were scattered everywhere, and I ran into errors because of conflicts between different installation methods. It became such a mess!
So, when I migrated to Debian, I decided to stick only to apt and AppImage to keep things clean. So far, it's working out great for me! lol
How I found Geminispace
I first learned about its existence from Gemini (the AI).
For someone like me—who loves the "old internet" built on goodwill, such as the era of personal homepages and the early days of niconico—the modern web feels like a place where I no longer belong.
I felt a strong urge to see the world of the Gemini protocol for myself, and that's how I ended up here.
Note: niconico
A video-sharing site that was overwhelmingly popular in Japan back then. At its peak, its popularity far exceeded that of YouTube or Dailymotion.
Extra: Anime & Manga Recommendations
I tend to only watch things that really pique my interest, so my list isn't long, but I've picked out a few favorites.
While anime and manga are popular worldwide today, in Japan, the social climate was quite harsh until around the 2000s... —at least, that’s how it felt to me.
Since I'm making this list, I've categorized them based on the year 2007—the dawn of niconico, back when being a denizen of the web was still very much a minority.
As you'll see, my tastes would never have been accepted by mainstream society back then!
We truly live in better times now...
----- The "Socially Acceptable" Line -----
The threshold for what I could safely mention when asked, "What anime or manga do you like?"
Key points: Titles from major weekly magazines, mainly targeted at boys (and often aired during prime time).
- NARUTO
- Fullmetal Alchemist
----- The "Proceed with Caution" Line -----
Titles I might mention to classmates or close colleagues at work.
Key points: Anime aired in the late afternoon (since they were aimed at kids, people were generally more forgiving).
- Code Geass
- Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway
----- The "Socially Taboo" Line -----
Titles I could only share with close, like-minded classmates (Definitely not for the workplace).
Key points: Titles from major weekly magazines but featuring female leads (Mostly aired during late-night slots).
- I"s
- Ichigo 100% (Strawberry 100%)
- The Quintessential Quintuplets
----- The "Treated as a Potential Criminal" Line -----
Titles I could only ever confess to my absolute best friends.
Key points: A wide range of titles, including those featuring many "kawaii" girls or based on Light Novels.
