The Mass Router — Context: This takes place a few months after my previous story. *** He glanced nadirward through the observation window at the green and blue surface of the planet. A river, coruscating in Focus's rays, wound through the verdant jungle passing below. It was THE river, the measure to which all other rivers were compared. It was so old that it didn't even have a name. Every other river on Yih, and every watercourse wrought on other celestial bodies by pioneers in the...

There doen't seem to be a rule against posting your own stories, so here's one of mine. I always give this disclaimer: I am not a professional or even aspiring author. I am a conlanger and worldbuilder. I write not because it is my preferred medium to express my imagination but because it's the most accessible. With all that said I hope this story is at least worth the time it takes to read it. Alien speech is indicated by Italian quotes («»). ----- The Tornado Jim surveyed the empty...

Bad Space Science... — I know it's supposed to be fiction but a few things completely break my viewing pleasure. I'm not a scientist but it's pretty obvious what an explosion in space looks like. things fly apart in straight lines. If there is oxidizer around there will be an explosion -- a flash but no bang please. None of those weird shock waves. No billowing clouds. Just crap flying in different directions from the center after a flash. Obviously you don't get thrown, unless something...

Andrei Tarkovsky movies on YouTube — I recently found two movies directed by Andrei Tarkovsky on YouTube; first, Stanisław Lem's "Solaris" and then "Stalker" by the Strugastky brothers. Real SF gems, with English subs, free to watch at the time of this writing: Solaris [https link] Stalker [https link] Both books & movies are classics.

The Stupidest Film Adaptation - The Mysterious Island (2005) — With Patrick Stewart, Kyle MacLachlin and Gabrielle Anwar, can you go wrong? Yes, apparently you can make the worst garbage ever! I love Jules Verne's 'Mysterious Island'. I grew up with it, and I was probably 8 or so when I first read it. I've enjoyed re-reading it over the years, gaining something with every read. It is an inspiration for any self-respecting nerd! God, where do I start? It is rarely that I have nothing good...

Anyone have any favorite recent sci-fi reads? Here are some of mine (though some of these were read last year, so not super recent): All of the murderbot books by Martha Wells To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir Ammonite by Nicola Griffith Stringers by Chris Panatier The Mountain In the Sea by Ray Naylor Galactic Pot-Healer by Philip K Dick A mix of hard sci-fi, enviro/eco sci-fi, and just good fun with aliens and space. I'd love to get some good...

Just finished reading the first 2 books of the Silo series by High Howey (Wool and Shift) working on the 3rd now. This series is addictive! The show got me into it, but I’m finding the books a lot more interesting. Anyone else reading the books or watching the show?

Adrian Tchaikovsky — Anyone read any of Adrian Tchaikovsky's works? I'm currently listening to Dogs of War, and have read a fair amount of his Sci-Fi. I really love his stuff. One of my dreams is to make some sort of video game adaptation/amalgamation/tribute to his stuff.

Who's excited for Villeneuve's Dune Part 2? The first one got me to re-read the original book series up to Heretics of Dune (where I stalled half-way...). I particularly liked the audio and music; great atmosphere. It lost some momentum in the end, but what can you do, given the story.
