I’m pondering about self hosting a small gopher hole on my raspberry pi. It’s mostly for #meshtastic (I’m using it as a BBS), but I’d like to show it off to people without a mesh of their own. Would it be a bad idea to open port 70 on my firewall? I’m intentionally avoiding any cgi so the surface area of attack in smallish.

Hey, I was just reading up on gophermap syntax when I noticed there are two item types that seem identical. "I" is the standard type for an image, but also ":" is the Gopher+ type for bitmaps. Is there a difference?

Liking gopher more and more... — The more time I spend digging through phlogs, the more I think I like Gopher more than Gemini. Maybe it has to do with not enjoying proportional fonts on lagrange, but somehow gopher pages look tighter and more pleasing

Just set up a gopher hole as a companion to the Baha'i.FYI Gemini capsule. Slowly getting the handle of gophermaps and thinking about how I want to use it and make it unique and worth visiting. Will probably add a lot more ASCII art and find different resources to share there.

In for a penny, have setup a gopher daemon to dual host my small site on gemini/gopher. [gopher link] Have yet to learn all the idioms of gopherdom and its probably verboten to serve .gmi files but they are just text after all and lagrange renders them properly and its all readable via curl so why not. Need to find a more elegant way to work out internal links, may just remove as they aren’t strictly necessary.

Found a solution for my problem — It’s been a while that I couldn’t access the floodgap server… I’ve thought on my end that the server itself was dead, but it seems that it was my ISP which blocked that type of connection; currently using a free VPN and I have no problem accessing their gopherhole!

@solderpunk Updated VF-1 to 1.0.0 on 30 December. (Gopher commandline browser). I haven't check it out but figured I'd share.

I started up a gemlog using gssg to generate it and create the post list and everything. It works well, and is easy to use. I wanted to also put my gemlog posts on my gopher hole. What are others using to generate their gopher holes? Or does everyone just do it manually?
