In response to: [gemini link] I believe it is essentially that: a) If an employee is injured things get messy... is it worth it for a near minimum wage employee to get injured or killed over some product? b) there's a cost involved with regard Insurance and/or making a financially gesture to support an employee that's injured or a family who is now a member down. c) the employee and/or company will likely be sued if the perpetrator is injured, killed or *eugh* has their rights breached. Because…

@lars_the_bear in response to: [gemini link] It's worth noting also in the UK this whole Making Tax Digital malarkey insists that you only use authorised Accounting software that is certified for the MTD platform. Yes, you can still use whatever software yourself, export details in a CSV and then pass to a 3rd party accountant who can process it and make your submissions to HMRC using permitted software. But that has a cost and friction involved. If you are a sole trader who normally does their…

Finally got around to creating a VM to try Yggdrasil. Can anyone recommend anything on the network? Worked my way through most of the English content from the "Getting Started" list of nodes. Also, anyone have any luck with i2p on OpenBSD with jdk-17? I couldn't get the router to come up using the regular guide. I assume OBSD requires some user/permissions finessing to work.

FGS just found out the Internet Archive is age restricted in the UK. Given how just about every government seems to be going down a dark path at the moment, does anyone know a Guillotine manufacturer I can buy shares in? Think there might be a bull run on them soon.

Managed to find D.A.R.Y.L. in a charity/thrift shop a while back and just watched it with the wife. She gave it a thumbs up :)

Thinking of trying the Carnivore Diet in the New Year. Is there anyone one on here who has been doing Carnivore long-term that could share their experience with it? I know the first couple of weeks can be rough as your gut adjusts but how have you found it after that? Any health issues cleared up? Increased muscle mass/volume? General tips?

@clsiebold PRISM VCS sounds like an interesting project which I'll be keeping an eye on. I just had a thought though as to whether using the ZFS filesystem and tooling could be used to knock up a rudimentary VCS where each project was a distinct ZFS volume and each commit was essentially a snapshot. Mounting two snapshots could be used to generate diffs and branches could perhaps be handles through some kind of metadata file or sqlitedb that associated branches with snapshots. ZFS would bring...

Finally got around to compiling lagrange on my other op6t and copied identity files and bookmarks over from my openbsd laptop with good old scp. Probably lost a few bookmarks but atleast I can wordle, spellbinding and farkle on my lunch break again :) Will just not update this PMOS install until next stable release in Dec and hope Edge to v24.12 migration is an option.

Following on from random2934 throwing a project idea out there. I think something that might be useful to folks is if someone was able to host a DynDNS service which used a periodic gemini request with an identity cert to update IPs for registered domains associated with that cert. Registration (including association of the identity) and management of domains and associated RR would be fairly doable via a gemini interface. Nice easy: setup of the service and add the domain(s) you intend to...

Hey everyone, just wondering if any gemini users also use telnet or ssh BBS's on the regular? Any recomendations if so? I never really used them back in the day but its something I've been wanting to give a try for a while now.

Just watching some retro CoCo content on Youtube and there was mention of dialing in to a BBS at 300baud in 2023. This got me thinking... In the UK atleast mobile contracts only really charge their users for Data and premium rate calls/xMS. Does anyone know if someone has fudged together a BBS style system hosted on a Linux mobile? In theory you'd be able to host it on a minimal data contract for a few pounds a month. You'd be limited to 1 or 2 simultaneous connections but you could maybe use...

@skyjake I swear I posted in a thread earlier today discussing ways to remobe the need to navigate a link and get a respose before prompting a user for expected input. Can't find it or my post in my post history. Has that thread been deleted or am I just going mental?

Well, I took part in the #oldcomputerchallenge this year. Though I found I didn't really have enough free time to feel like I sufficiently.participated. I did discover a few things though... 1) bsd.sp will not relink the kernel successfully, 2) I think I want to go full tty for a bit, 3) IRC is great and I don't know why I never got in to it before, 4) ircii could do with a couple.of QoL improvements.
