Re: "YouTube locked down on Android?"
I get that periodically on firefox on android too. I run on VPN (ProtonVPN) so I change its output point and the message will go away 9 times out of 10. For the remaining one time I just change locations again and that'll fix it.

That makes sense. But what's odd here is that only android devices seem to be affected and not Linux.

My devices are good but I also occasionally get that. I hop on a VPN and carry on.

today yt didnt work for me as well, also protonvpn. well it worked but would stop and show a grey screen in browser window.
i also use my custom script that pipes output of yt-dlp to mpv, and it would also interrupt.
however chromium based browser worked fine.
so i don't understand.

Is it related to the post? Recently, I experienced that YouTube I was watching on my PC stopped after tens of seconds of playback. Since then, updates have been made to Chrome and YouTube, and this problem has been improved. Google may have tried to eliminate unintended app use.

I've mainly used GrayJay on my Laptop (desktop) I did used to get some weird audio glitch that happens with some videos, but thankfully it's stopped completely. (Some video encoding glitch and stuff iirc)

I think that G. is trying to push users into software it can easily track, like YouTube app.
My thinking is that, when G. allows you to do something that seems to give you privacy, it is because they have some alternatives in how to track you.
Have you ever wondered why the only phone you can 'degoogle' is made by Google?
๐ป darkghost ยท May 06 at 11:49:
I mean you can deGoogle a lot of phones with things like Lineage OS. But you have to leave your bootloader unlocked which causes scary messages to appear at boot. With the Pixels you can relock the bootloader and get a *different* scary message at boot.
But yes, Reddit is doing the same thing and even locking down the mobile web page directing users towards the app. It's all about tracking ahead of these age verification laws going into effect. The law in Utah can be best summarized as "assume anybody accessing your service is from Utah and follow this specific age verification."

Ah, Utah. A relative became a Mormon and converted all the dead Jewish family members posthumously. Someday soon people will think everyone was a Mormon.
Likewise, everyone is or was a child, and needs retroactive protection.

YouTube locked down on Android? โ It may be me, but two Android devices I own, as of today, do not let me watch videos via GrayJay or via HTTP using waterfox. I get a request to log in (to avoid bots in one message, and 'to support our community' in another). I thought it was a global lockdown, but oddly, on a Linux box with waterfox I have no problems. Anyone experiencing this?
