Re: "Opinions: use of banking apps on graphene"
apparently there are floss banking apps, if banks allow it.
i know because there are at least two such apps on sailfish stereman store, one supports many banks.

second page says, the application supports those banks that support FinTS/HBCI API.
and that those are mostly german banks.
so probably german users pressured the banks to provide api, and now open client applications can be written.
yes sailfish is not android, but if there's a sailfish app i guess there are android apps as well.

i use my (japanese) banks' official apps with sandboxed google play. they all work fine for me.
the only two apps i've been unable to use are our national ID app, which shuts me out with a message claiming my phone is rooted (it isn't, but i understand what happened), and google wallet, which just loads forever. for now, that's it and i pray that the bank apps continue to work
i just wish graphene could be added to google's OS whitelist so it could pass the filters normally

I've had no luck with my banks app on a dedicated "Googled" user profile. Have had to resort to using Graphenes browser to add it to my desktop as a webapp.

I could live without my banking app if I could still use tap to pay.

I think you probably stand a better chance with GrapheneOS than with any other non-stock firmware. I don't use my phone for banking, so I have no personal experience. But from talking to other Graphene users, I get the impression that the experiences are mixed, and it's hard to predict whether it will work. Depends on the bank and the region, among other things.
Even if it works today, it might not work tomorrow. Despite Graphene's best efforts to appear "respectable", it's still seen as subversive by corporations.

I didn't even use my bank's app prior to using Graphene, so wasn't going to start now. I just do banking at my PC

today my wife's bank app didn't start telling her she has to disable debug or something.
i first panicked because i thought the app won't run with an open bootloader, i have read things like that. she runs lineage.
turned out the app required to disable developer options.
