All notifications are dismissed the same way: either when opening the notification link (in dashboard or in thread), or using the Clear action.
Are you sure these unexpected Thanks were not very recently sent, so they weren't present in the last listing of notifications?

I've seen those "ghost notifications". Then, I've realized that they are in a tab opened before I took an action on them.

I suspect that it is my fault -- maybe I hit the back button without registering it mentally. Seeing the same thank yous wakes me up I suppose.
Just thought it's worth checking because it happens quite often.

Thank-you notifications — Is it me, or do these not go away sometimes after you see them? I have not tried to catch it in the act, but I often find myself noticing that I still have some notifications after viewing all, and invariably there is a thank-you or two.
