Power structures are inevitable in human interactions. If there were only two people left on Earth, they'd be President and Vice President.
On the whole, Gemini is populated by reasonable people with no profit motive, so it mostly works, most of the time. But I have respect for those people who refuse to deal with Antenna, BBS, etc., because of the "centralization" they embody. · 1 day ago

Just for the sake of contrast, this is what I'd think would constitute to be censorship - 1. you host a capsule aggregator, and your federal, state, or local jurisdiction penalizes you for content on your capsule which is not criminally punishable and is protected by first amendment rights (government), 2. you host a capsule aggregator, and ICANN for whatever reason decides to block any requests for your address and name assignment blocked as if a malicious source for merely hosting published views (institutional), 3. you host a capsule aggregator, and somehow updates and further DL's for your server become blocked by the maintainer preventing your host from serving (private). · 2 days ago
quick aside, food for thought - so you observe the means to host an instance -are- open source -and- possible for self-hosting the kind of platform you desire, yes? If I understand right, censorship involves taking place from government, private space, and institutions as part of authoritative significance. This is some guy's capsule aggregator who, by their generosity, has made the space available given reasonable conduct and so chooses to moderate established terms as they seek fit to the public. That is neither governmental, private, or institutional. So if you're able to do your own, and you're all adults with autonomy, willfully agreeing to terms: is it actually censorship? · 2 days ago
