sounds like a fun way to make like a alert system or something

I love the idea of these things, but I'm always worried about them fading after I stick them on something. Have you seen them degrade at all?

๐Ÿš€ SavaRocks [OP] ยท 2025-07-15 at 02:02:

yes, they fade out over time. I also have a Canon TypeStar 10 II thermal typewriter and you can see them degrading after 3-4 years.

Using adhesive tape on printed thermal paper acts like an eraser.

Thermal paper shouldn't be used for important things like passwords, crypto wallet keys etc.

But for small notes, reminders, shopping lists or just fooling around it's awesome

Ah well, that is disappointing, but then I guess not everything has to last forever. Then again, if you only need that password for a few seconds, maybe thermal printing should be preferred. This password will self destruct after several years...

years or hours if you leave it in the sun ๐Ÿ˜€

@candycanearter Managed to connect the printer via bluetooth to a server running Ubuntu but had trouble setting up cups to use the bluetooth printer.

If I have more time and manage to set it up I will surely post it on my blog

yeah, it would have been nice to print a message from uptime kuma or gotify about downtime, ups logs. this way an archive of the events would have been on paper ๐Ÿ˜€

The first smaller camera I've heard of from the internet is the Gameboy camera. I also never used a small printer, if only I have one, but that'll wait.

Danger!

Thermal printers use paper coated with a substance that is toxic very bad for your health. Likewise with most receipts in stores. Do a little research before letting your kid spend too much time handling the paper.

Tiny thermal printer is a lot of fun โ€” My daughter just turned 8, and one of her birthday gifts was a tiny thermal printer - the kind that spits out little notes, stickers and Sudokus with no ink, just magic. She loved it ... for about a day. Now I'm the one using it constantly for a lot of stuff. The full post and some photos are available on [gemini link]
