I recently disabled and masked local search indexer in GNOME, now my HDD can rest in silence! [bash] Before, this fucking indexer make me angry, by awaiting for FS unlock on coding, especially with Firefox running and caching these 'modern' Web pages. Madness! I hate you all, money/feature makers, SDD traders and their users; users especially - I should drop yours ugly software all this time instead of installing required one.

It's infinitive hell on the GNOME desktop! Is there any alternative to [https link] dash-to-dock After the upgrade, it is working with lags, and I have to adapt to the KDE/Windows concept. I'm using Fedora 42; maybe I can install something similar, like Dash for Elementary OS? Thanks!

My recent experiment with the NewsFlash app as the replacement for web browser was a failure. I found this app to be completely unexpected in its behavior; nothing works properly, it lags, and it reloads old items that I have already read. The maintainers are also unresponsive to feedback, including attempts to contribute. The Gemini ecosystem seems to be the only possible way to address my frustration :D

I'm trying to detach the web browser from my dashboard, and now looking for a GTK application to browse Mastodon updates using localhost subscriptions model. I know about Tuba, but it seems to require a login / online account, while I want something that supports stealth mode, like the FreeTube app for YouTube. Even if you know something non-G related, let me know, please!

Déjà Dup vs Pika Backup — I'm successfully using the Déjà Dup tool to back up my files onto a flash drive, but I recently found Pika Backup, and it looks like something more modern. Unlike Déjà Dup, Pika uses BorgBackup as its backend. What do you think about these tools, and which one is better today?
